Digital Cameras
This is a great time to buy a digital camera. Counting on continued growth of the internet, a large number of companies began making digital cameras. Most of these companies have a long history of making high quality photographic equipment; So the cameras on the market today are generally of a high quality, making it much easier to look for a low price.
With the dotcom melt down of 2001. Many of the camera companies that rushed into the market have excess inventory--which they are willing to sell at fantastic prices. Liquidation centers (Like overstock.com) have good inventories of high quality cameras. You can use the little coupon above to get an additional $15 off if you buy before 4/15.
When I first became interested in digital photography, the industry was in its infancy. The barest point and shoot cameras cost in the hundreds of dollars, and had very little storage. To get simple features like a zoom lens would cost into the thousands of dollars. Since I did not want to spend thousands for a camera that would be come obsolete in a few months, I tried to find the best possible deal on a simple point and shoot camera.
I hunted around for several months, and bought the Polaroid 640-PDC from a clearance rack at Walmart for $170.00. There are better $50 dollar cameras on the market today. This simple camera took great pictures. I took it on a trip down the Grand Canyon.
Because I intended to display the pictures on a web site, I used a low resolution, and got 200 pictures on a single 8MB smart card. The biggest complaint I had with the camera was that, for some odd reason, I could not take pictures when it was cold. This made it difficult to take pictures at dusk and dawn, when the light was the best. I also want to have a zoom.
Well, I want to take pictures in the morning, I decided to take the plunge two months ago, and bought a Kodak DC240 with a 4x zoom. This is a late model camera, that I got from overstock.com. Again, I am looking for a way to capture lower resolution still lives for display on web pages. This camera suffices. It has a low aperature, and does a horrible job of capturing motion. So it is not good for taking pictures at sport events, or wildlife. Hmmm, I will probably get the camera buying bug again soon.
I will post pictures with this new camera on the site www.protophoto.com.
